Crowd Pleazer 2.0 With Biohazard Theme

When it was time to replace the F-150 body for my Revo, I opted for a Crowd Pleazer 2.0. This seemed like a natural choice, as I was planning on adding a 1/8 scale buggy wing to the rear of the truck to help protect the motor. The Crowd Pleazer 2.0 is also a good choice for racing, which is another duty that my Revo will be pulling. The Crowd Pleazer 2.0 is based on Pro-Line's fits Crowd Pleazer body, but designed specifically with the Traxxas Revo in mind.

The inspiration for this theme came after sitting down and watching Season 3 of "24" on DVD, in preparation for the start of Season 4. With a virus on the loose, biohazard symbols were in constant view throughout the entire season. This gave me the thought that perhaps a biohazard theme would work well when applied through an airbrush. The "liquefied virus" on the front of the body was inspired when seeing the glowing neon color of the virus in the vials, and the design was created using a template I had previously created. You can download these designs from my Masks and Templates Section.

I used the following colors.

I brushed on several coats of liquid masking and, after transferring the virus design to the front of the body, I then cut the design out. I also cut out the biohazard design on the roof of the body as well. Following that, I also cut the bed area of the body so I could give it a carbon-fiber look. As I planned to plaint the carbon fiber rear end first, I went ahead and pulled that portion of the liquid masking off once it was cut.

Using some toolbox matting cut so that it fit the area I wished to paint. I started by spraying several coats of Faspearl Charcoal. Then I removed the matting and sprayed a light coat of Faspearl silver over the unpainted squares, followed by Fasblack as a backing.

The next order of business was the biohazard symbol on the roof of the body. I removed the liquid masking that formed the symbol, and then lightly sprayed the edges with some dark red paint. The dark red was made by mixing a few drops of Fasblack into some Fasred. Then I filled in the design with Fasred.

I then turned my attention to what would be the main areas of the truck, the orange which would fade towards dark red at the rear. I started with the darkest red, and sprayed the rear of the truck. I also added some highlighting on the areas that would be sprayed with just the Fasred. Then I faded the Fasred into the dark red around the middle of the truck. I used some Fasred to add some highlights to the area that would see the orange, and then finished up the main portion of the body with orange.

You may notice smaller biohazard symbols at various places throughout the body. To accomplish this look, I cut a small template out of some thicker paper. I then laid the template in the desired area, and sprayed a different color through the template than I would use for the primary background color. For instance, in the case of the orange, I used red for the biohazard symbols. These symbols were actually sprayed before the background/main color was applied.

At this point, only the front "virus splash" remained. So I removed the liquid masking from this area and proceeded to finish the body. I started by spraying Fasfluorescent Yellow onto the area fairly heavily. Then, before it dried, I blotted it with a piece of crumpled saran wrap. Once blotted, and once it had dried, I backed the Fasfluorescent Yellow with some Faspearl Green. The end result is a textured look, much like what you might see when looking at a virus under a microscope. I then applied several coats of Faswhite as a backing for the whole truck.

With the design painting out of the way, I then backed the entire job with clear lacquer to protect the paint from water and nitro fuel. Then I removed the window masking and cut my body post holes and cooling holes.
