Ford Bronco With Mud SplashThis design was thought up by Zac. He wanted something similar to the water-type splash I used on my Jeep body, but wanted it to resemble mud. You can download the overall mask design from my Masks and Templates Section. There are also a couple of other aspects to this scheme that contribute to the overall effectiveness of the final result. The blue/turquoise base color really help make the mud-splash the focal point of the design, while adding some color to the rest of the body as well. I also painted the roll bars and motor chrome so they would stand out a little more predominately as well. If you aren't familiar with this body, I used the HPI Ford Bronco, as that is what Zac chose to use. While it's designed for a Savage, it works very well on a Maxx.
I used the following colors. The first thing I did was to take the clear body and mark, with a permanent marker, the location for the body posts. It's easiest to do this while the body is still clear. Then I applied the windows masks and followed that with several coats of liquid masking throughout the entire inside of the body. I then laid out the design with a permanent marker on the outside of the vehicle. Once that was completed I used a hobby knife to make all my cuts where the masking would be peeled away as I applied the colors. I first focused my attention towards the areas that would be given the chrome treatment. I removed the liquid masking from these areas, and then sprayed several light coats of AlClad II chrome on them, followed by a backing of black. I then focused my attention towards the mud-splash portion of the design. After removing the liquid masking for the front design, I used some brown that I had mixed with black to make a darker color to add some depth to the mud. Then I used it to add some darker details to the mud design on the truck. After that I painted the rest of the splash design with Fasbrown that was slightly lightened with Faswhite. After painting the splash design, I removed the remainder of the liquid masking that covered the rest of the body with would end up with blue or turquoise. However first I needed to add a shadow around a portion of the splash design. For that I used Fasblack, and sprayed it around the desired area in small amounts. I then used the Faspearl Blue and just randomly sprayed the area behind the splash and a few other areas of the truck. Following that I sprayed the remainder of the Bronco with Fasescent Turquoise. After that was complete, I was ready to back the entire Bronco with white. With the design painting out of the way, I then backed the entire job with clear lacquer to protect the paint from water and nitro fuel. Then I removed the window masking and cut my body post holes and cooling holes. Zac had some stickers he had bought separately that he also chose to apply after the paint job was complete.
