Painted Bodies

Duratrax Evader With Fluorescent Wedges

This body was painted for a Duratrax Evader Pro that I reviewed for RC Universe. The body was included with the model, but it was unpainted. The nice thing about this body was that Duratrax had already cut all of the body holes, making my job much easier. Instead of having to mark body hole locations, I could jump straight in and work on the painting aspect of the body. I created the overall design template myself, but it was inspired by some designs I had seen on the internet.

I used the following colors with this body.

I brushed on several coats of liquid masking and the sketched out the design on the body with a permanent fine-tipped marker. After the design was sketched out, I used a hobby knife to cut the design out, and removed the sections of liquid masking that would make up the purple background color.

The area around the rear window received a darker shade of purple. I made this by mixing Fasescent Purple with a few drops of Fasblack. Once I had painted the darker purple areas, I finished up by painting the rest of the main color with straight Fasescent Purple.

Next I concentrated on the areas that would be painted turquoise. The appropriate areas of masking were removed, and the paint was sprayed. The next area would be the fluorescent wedges. Once the liquid masking was removed from these areas, I sprayed the edges with Fasflourescent Green and then followed up with Fasflourescent Yellow.

The end was near as all that needed to be painted now was the carbon-fiber look on the rear of the sides. However, before I attacked this area, I first backed all my paint up until this point with some Faswhite to protect it from the darker black paint that would be following next.

To paint the carbon-fiber look, I used some toolbox matting cut so that it fit the area I wished to paint. I started by spraying several coats of Faspearl Charcoal. Then I removed the matting and sprayed a light coat of Faspearl silver over the unpainted squares, followed by Fasblack as a backing.

With the design painting out of the way, I then backed the entire job with clear lacquer to protect the paint from the elements. Then I applied some of the supplied stickers and mounted the body on the truck.
