Painted Bodies

Ford F-150 with Tearing Effect

My stock Revo body didn't last long due to the massive amount of jumping I put it through. So soon after I pulled it out of the box, I needed a replacement. So I pulled out an 2004 Ford F-150 body that I had lying around. The body is one of Pro-Line's newer ones, so it featured .060 " thick lexan. So it should prove to be very durable.

For the ghost flames, and ripping effect, I used a design I created myself. You can download these designs from my Masks and Templates Section.

I used the following colors.

I brushed on several coats of liquid masking and, after drawing the flames by hand, then cut the design of the flames and ripping effect out. Following that, I also cut the bed area of the truck so I could give it a carbon-fiber look. Once that was complete, I tore off the jagged areas off the ripped design in preparation for painting.

I started by using some black to add a little shadowing around the "ripped paint". Then I filled in the rest of the torn segments with gray. Once that was complete, I turned my attention to the area underneath the tear, which was to represent the exposed metal after the paint has torn away. Again I used some black to provide a shadowing, and then I filled the rest of the area with silver.

For the next task, I focused on the bed of the truck which was to be given the carbon fiber treatment. I removed the liquid masking from these areas, and then cut the toolbox matting so that it fit the area I wished to paint. I started by spraying several coats of Faspearl Charcoal. Then I removed the matting and sprayed a light coat of Faspearl silver over the unpainted squares, followed by Fasblack as a backing.

Next I focused on the ghost flames. I peeled off the masking for the flames, and then I used a couple of light coats of Faschange Red. Once that was complete, I peeled the remainder of the liquid masking off of the body. Then I used Faspearl Green on the center areas of the body. Next I used Fasescent Purple to add some darker areas throughout the truck. Finally, I filled in the whole body with Fasescent Blue followed by several coats of Faswhite as a backing for the whole truck.

With the design painting out of the way, I then backed the entire job with clear lacquer to protect the paint from water and nitro fuel. Then I removed the window masking and cut my body post holes and cooling holes.
