Painted Bodies

HPI MT2 .18SS With Fluorescent Design

This body was painted for a HPI MT2 .18SS that I reviewed for RC Universe. The body was included with the model, but it was unpainted. The nice thing about this body was that HPI had already cut all of the body holes, making my job much easier. Instead of having to mark body hole locations, I could jump straight in and work on the painting aspect of the body. I created the overall design template myself, but it was inspired by some designs I had seen on the internet.

I used the following colors with this body.

I brushed on several coats of liquid masking and, after using my template, I then cut the front design out. Following that, I also cut the rollbar out, as it would receive silver paint to allow it to stand out.

I started by removing the liquid masking for the rollbar, and painted it with silver followed by a backing of white. Once that was complete, I turned my attention towards the front of the body. I started by removing the masking that formed the design, and then painted the rearward areas of the design in Fasfluorescent Orange. When the orange was finished, I followed up by painting the rest of the design with Fasfluorescent Yellow, and then backed the design with white.

Using some Fasescent Purple darkened with a few drops of black, I added some highlights at various places throughout the body. Then I used some purple straight out of the bottle to finish out the main color. Once finished, the entire truck was then back with white.

With the design painting out of the way, I then backed the entire job with clear lacquer to protect the paint from water and nitro fuel. Then I applied some of the supplied stickers and mounted the body on the truck.
