Painted Bodies

50's Chevy Pick-up with Flames

This body was a request, and they wanted this body with orange flames on yellow. The flames themselves consist of four separate colors, some of which blend so subtly that it's hard to tell the difference.

I started out with an early 50's Chevy Pick-up Body from Pro-line. This is a body, although designed for a Maxx, will work on a Stampede.

For the flames I used the flames pattern from RC Tech. I printed out their pattern and traced it onto a Parma Uncut Vinyl Mask Sheet and cut it out. A big thanks to RCExotic and the designer of the pattern, Ashneel Singh.

The design looks like the following, and is available in 1:10 scale at the above link.

I also used the following colors in Faskolor paints.

I didn't mark a location for the body posts, since I didn't know exactly where the body posts would be on the recipient vehicle.

I laid out my design on the truck and painted the base color of Fasyellow after I hand-painted the gas tank cap and straps. I then backed the Fasyellow in Faswhite, and pulled the flame masks off. Two of the colors for the flames were a blend of Faskolor paint. The darkest orange, which is nearly red and serves as the end of the flames, was achieved by starting with Fasorange and adding a few drops of Fasred. The next color was Fasorange itself. Then I started with Fasorange again, and added Faswhite to make a lighter orange. The last color of the flames is done is Faswhite.
