Painted Bodies

Ford Excursion with Fading Purple Checkboard

I wanted to go with something different from the flames and wild color schemes when I started this body. I wanted the final result to be a little more subtile than what I have done to date. I think the end result is very sharp, even though I learned a few lessons along the way. I'd like to try this same scheme with another color later on in the future.

I started out with an 2000 Ford Excursion Body from Pro-line. This body, although designed for a Maxx, will work very well on a Stampede as well.

The checkerboard design was done freehand using liquid masking, and the various shades of purple were created by blending the Faskolor paints below.

I didn't mark a location for the body posts, since I didn't know exactly where the body posts would be on the recipient vehicle.

I brushed several coats of liquid masking on the entire inside of the body. Then I cut out the checkerboard design. I then mixed three other shades of purple, with the Faspearl White and Fasblack, for the checkboard fade and the main body fade.
