Painted Bodies

Frewer Racing BMW M3

This body was painted for a Scumacher Nitro Fusion .21 that I reviewed for RC Universe. The Frewer Racing BMW M3 body was included with the model, but was unpainted. The nice thing about this body was that Schumacher had already marked all of the body holes, making my job much easier. Instead of having to mark body hole locations, I could jump straight in and work on the painting aspect of the body. I created the overall design myself, but it was based off of some designs I had seen on the internet.

I used the following colors with this body.

I brushed on several coats of liquid masking and, after using my hand-drawn design templates, I then cut the designs out. Following that, I also cut the areas that would get a carbon-fiber look. These areas were the lower sides of the car.

I started by removing the liquid masking for the silver pinstriped border around the design. Following that, I used silver to paint all of the stripes, and backed it with white. Next I removed the liquid masking for the design itself. Then I sprayed a couple of light coats of Faschange Blue to give a blue highlight in the design for when the paint job was finished. After that, I sprayed the red area of the design, and then followed up with the yellow. I then removed the liquid masking for the white area in the front, and painted it. I also backed everything painted, up until this point, in white.

Next I addressed the carbon fiber treatment. I removed the liquid masking from these areas, and then cut the toolbox matting so that it fit the area I wished to paint. I started by spraying several coats of Faspearl Charcoal. Then I removed the matting and sprayed a light coat of Faspearl silver over the unpainted squares, followed by Fasblack as a backing. I also sprayed Fasblack over the front bumper area at this time.

The last thing to need addressing, was the main body color itself. After removing the rest of the liquid masking, I started by spraying several light coats of Faspearl Green around the top of the doors and a-pillars of the body. Then I used Fasescent Turquoise to fill in the rest of the body. I followed all of this with several coats of Faswhite as a backing for the whole car.
