Charging/Wiring Adapters

Converting to Deans plugs are a great way to make your electric truck more efficient and pick up a little extra speed with hotter motors. However there are times when Deans adapters can be an inconvenience. Such as when you're bashing with "Tamiya-connected" friends and they need to borrow one of your packs, or you need to use their charger. Normally there would be a problem due to the incompatibilities between the plugs. However I devised a couple of adapters to cure this problem.

When I clipped off the Tamiya connectors, that come standard on most battery packs, I cut it so that I left a some wire on the plug. Then I soldered a male Deans plug on it. If you have cut your Tamiya plugs off and don't have any excess wire, or you threw them away you can purchase Tamiya connectors separately as well. Once completed you should have an adapter that looks like the picture below. This plug will allow you to connect a Deans equipped battery to a Tamiya equipped ESC or charger.

Next I took a Tamiya plug from an old ESC that I had cut off, which had some excess wire on it, and soldered on a female Deans plug. The result is below. This will allow you to use a Tamiya equipped battery pack on a Deans equipped ESC or charger.

You can verify that you have constructed them correctly if you can connect them together as shown in the pictures below. You could also use them in these configurations as extensions if needed between items.

It's important to remember, that when using these adapters, you do not have any of the overall benefits that the Deans plugs would normally give you. This is due to the fact that you still have a Tamiya adapter being used. So on hotter motors you are still subject to the inefficiencies and possible problems that may result from the poor connection offered by the Tamiya connectors. However in a pinch, these adapters can come in very handy. You can also use them for other applications than the Deans plugs. Below is an example of a Tamiya to servo plug I use for receiver pack charging.
