Reversing ESC's

The average hobbyist and basher will want a reversing ESC. This will give you the capability of reversing the truck to back yourself out of situations where you can no longer move the truck forward. I often see people that think that they will not miss reverse if they buy a forward only ESC. In my opinion, if you primarily plan to bash, get a reversing ESC.

Without a doubt the best reversing ESC for an off-road truck is the Novak Super Rooster. However for many people the price keeps it out of reach. Those in the market for a cheaper ESC will find there is a good selection, almost too good of a selection. This is due to the fact one can be quickly overcome in the number of reversing ESC's available. I've compiled a short list below of what I consider to be some of the best budget reversing ESC's that are available on the market today. I have taken into account motor limits, current ratings, and feedback from people who have used it. While there are plenty more ESC's to pick from, the ones below come highly regarded.

You may notice that I've left the Traxxas XL-1 and the Rooster, among others, off this list. This is because I feel that, in their price range, they fall short in how wide of a motor selection range they give you.

Forward-Only ESC's

For some people reverse on an ESC isn't a concern to them. Make sure, before you buy, that reverse isn't something you might use. Otherwise you may find yourself purchasing another ESC later on down the road because you didn't choose wisely enough the first time around. If reverse is something you feel is necessary, make sure you pick from the list above instead.

Below is a list of some forward only ESC's that I would recommend for use by anyone wanting to purchase one.
