Extending Fuel Tank Lid Travel

The fuel tank on the Revo is a well thought out design. It's low profile helps keep the tune consistent throughout the tank of fuel, and the low mounting point helps keep the weight low on the chassis. However, with some bodies, you may wish that the lid opened further than it does to facilitate easier refueling.

You'll be happy to note that you can easily modify the tank to open wider with a hobby knife or Dremel. The process is simple an only takes a few moments of time. The first steps I would recommend would be to remove the tank from the Revo, and then remove the lid. While this isn't absolutely necessary, it does make access to the area that we'll modify much easier.

The tank is easily pulled off by removing the fuel lines, flowed by the body clips that hold it. Then unscrew the screw pin that holds the lid to the tank. This will leave you with just the tank, and plenty of room around its mouth to perform the modification.

You'll notice that there are vertical bars running down on each side of the tank's mouth. What you want to do is to remove this excess plastic, down to the body of the tank as shown below.

You could also accomplish the same thing by trimming away on the posts for the tank's lid. However, I feel that this will leave less material around the hole that the screw pin enters, and may affect the strength of the lid over a period of time. Grinding down the fuel tank in the areas indicated will not affect the strength of the tank at all.
