Reassembly

You've taken the motor apart and cleaned it completely. Now all that's left to do is reassemble it. For the most part all you need to do is follow the steps in part one of this article backwards. However, I will point out a few things that you may not be aware of that should be done, or that will help things go a little smoother.

When reinstalling the armature, make sure you use some bushing or bearing lube similar to Trinity's Royal Oil Bearing Lube on both ends of the armature where it rests in the bearings or bushings.

When re-installing the end bell, it's important to remember that the two screws that hold it down fit in the two holes in the lock ring. First install the lock ring, then turn it slightly to offset the notches so it doesn't pull back out. Then make sure the positive side of the end bell is on the correct side of the motor can, then line your end bell screws up with the holes. Following that, start the screws, but do not tighten them down. If you have replaced the brushes, you'll want to set the timing at 0°. After you have properly broke in the brushes you can reset the timing back to where it was before you disassembled the motor. If you are reusing the old brushes then you can set the timing to where it was before you disassembled the motor. Whether you set the timing at 0°, or back to it's original settings, you'll want to tighten the end bell screws down at this time.

Do not install the brushes and springs until after the end bell has been completely installed. When disassembling the motor and removing the end bell, it doesn't matter if you do the brushes and springs or the end bell screws first. However, when installing the end bell, the brushes will get in the way if they're in the brush hood. So you should wait until after the end bell has been installed before installing the brushes and springs.
