Basic Toolset

Hudy Basic Tool Set

Assembly/Tool Types

Upon removing the tools from the package, you'll need to correctly assemble them before they're used. To save space inside the package Hudy has slid the shafts down inside the handles. So follow the steps below to prep the tools for use.

First loosen the grub screw in the handle and slide the shaft out. You'll need a 2.0mm hex driver/wrench for the grub screw. One of your old 2.0mm L-wrenches will work perfectly. I would recommend using a small amount of thread lock, such as this thread lock by Devcon, on the grub screw itself. This will ensure the grub screw doesn't back out later while the tool is being used.

Once you have used thread lock on the grub screw and started threading it back into the handle, you want to install the shaft back into the handle. Find the notch on the shaft, and line it up with the grub screw.

Then all you need to do is to slide the shaft into place, and tighten the grub screw down into the notch in the shaft.

Here's a close-up of all the tool tips (excluding the body hole reamer). The flathead, and Phillips head screwdrivers on on the left. The 5.5mm and 7.0mm nut drivers are in the middle, and the hex drivers are on the right.

While not all of these tools can be used on every vehicle, you'll find that most of them can be. Exactly what can be used will vary from vehicle to vehicle, and manufacturer to manufacturer. The three hex drivers will easily cover any hex needs on a Traxxas vehicle, and would widely be considered the core foundation of about any set.

The 3.0mm flat head screwdriver provides itself as a perfect tuning tool for adjusting a nitro carburetor. The 5.0mm Phillips head screwdriver, will work perfectly in any location where a #2 Phillips head screwdriver is needed.

Here's a close-up of the body hole reamer. This tool cuts through lexan bodies quickly and effortlessly, and can cut holes up to 18mm in diameter. Be sure to keep the included cover on the tip of the reamer when it's not being used. The sharp edges of the tip can be easily damaged, if the tool is allowed to roll around your toolbox with no protection.

Here's a close-up of the tool handle. The diamond cut pattern provides a very solid, and positive, grip on the tool during the time you are using it.
