SkidMaxx

Impact Performance Products SkidMaxx

Introduction

Bashing with a Maxx can be brutal, especially if you bash like me. I like lots of air when I jump, and many times the ground below isn't the softest or smoothest stuff put on this earth. While the T-Maxx is one tough truck, better skid and transmission plates are often at the top of the list for people who bash as I do. It's scenarios such as this that caused Impact Performance Products (IPP) to develop the SkidMaxx.

The SkidMaxx is a single piece of aluminum, 2.5 inches wide and 3 mm thick. It's formed to fit snugly against the lower portion of the Maxx chassis and stretch from front to back. In doing this it ties the whole truck together as one unit, greatly increasing the rigidity of the truck itself in addition to providing protection for the underside of the Maxx.

Upon giving the SkidMaxx a first glace, you would think that it will make truck maintenance a great deal more difficult. However due to excellent planning on the part of IPP, that isn't the case. There are 25 access holes scattered along the SkidMaxx plate. These access points allow you to access nearly any screw you would need to when working on your Maxx. The holes allowing access to the transmission are slightly different though. They are smaller than the holes in the chassis brace it covers, so that when you remove the transmission mounting screws, the screws will not fall out. This can make working on the transmission a great deal easier, as you can just simply insert the screwdriver and run the screw back into place later.

For the weight conscious among you the SkidMaxx weigh in at 10.2 oz. That's a fair amount of weight, but considering the extra strength you gain, it's very much worth the small amount of weight that's added. Overall it's about the same as you'd see from adding skid plates to the underside of your Maxx when using the traditional individual plates.

The SkidMaxx is a great alternative to the usual upgrade path of skid and transmission plates. It also does a much better job of tying the whole truck together than skid plates could ever hope to do.
