Impact Performance Products True Track Rear Suspension

Installation


Installing the IPP True Track Rear Suspension isn't very difficult. However you will want to budget about 20-30 minutes of your time to make the swap.

The first thing you'll need to do is assemble the new suspension arm itself. Using the black countersunk screws and a 2.0 mm hex wrench attach one of the shock mounts to the suspension arm.




Now using another pair of the countersunk screws attach the other shock mount to the arm.




Next attach an e-clip onto a 34 mm suspension pin and then pass it through the suspension arm, and the IPP bearing carrier that will replace the stock carrier. Notice that the area on the suspension arms where the pin passes through are slightly different lengths. This is what gives you the 1° of toe-in when the suspension arms are installed. You'll want to make sure, when you assemble the arms, that the shorter section of the arms are facing the front of the truck.

Once the pin has been slid all the way through the bearing carrier and suspension arm, secure it with another e-clip.




Now you'll need to remove the lower arm from your Maxx. First remove the wheel, hex adapter, and axle pin.




Next remove the rear turnbuckle that runs from the bulkhead to the bearing carrier. Once that's out of the way, you can remove the screws than secure the lower portion of the shocks to the suspension arms.




Next you'll need to focus on the bearing carrier. Using a 5.0 mm hex wrench, remove the pillow ball caps from the bearing carrier.




Then, using a 2.0 mm hex wrench, remove both pillow balls from the suspension arms themselves.




The lower suspension arm should now be completely independent from the rest of the suspension, and only be attached at the bulkhead as shown below.




Next you'll want to remove the suspension pin that holds the lower suspension arm to the bulkhead. This will allow you to completely remove the suspension arm.




Now you'll need to swap the bearings from the stock bearing carrier to the new one provided by IPP. Gently push them out with a flathead screwdriver or similar object, and then install them into the new carrier.




Using a 57 mm suspension pin, attach the suspension arm to the bulkhead. Ensure once again, that the shorter section of the suspension arm is facing the front of the truck.




Next apply a little bearing, or 3-in-1, oil on the axle and inner race of the bearings. Then slide the axle back into the bearings. Once the axle is in place, reinstall a pillow ball into the upper suspension arm followed by a pillow ball cap.




All that's left, is to reattach the shocks to the suspension arm. As when you fastened the shock mounts to the suspension arm, use the supplied screws to secure the lower part of the shock to the shock mounts. They may be a little tough to get started, but once you get them going they'll run in easily.




To finish the installation, you'll need to repeat the process for the other side of your truck. Once it's complete, you'll notice a small amount of toe-in as is shown in the picture below.
