Sullivan Products TigerDriveTesting and Final Thoughts
Once the TigerDrive was properly installed it was apparent this was a match made in heaven. The TigerDrive and my cordless drill had no problem at all when it came to turning over the high compression big block XTM. The gears of the TigerDrive exhibited no slipping at all while starting. The TigerDrive takes up no more room than a pullstart, and doesn't weigh much more than one either. However, due to the fact there's no cord to over pull, it's much more durable. In fact I haven't seen much of a weakness at all with the TigerDrive itself. The only drawback I see is that if you used the drill, with a high tension setting, to start the motor you could damage the motor if a flooded condition would happen to occur. So you should always make sure to set the drill's tension to a low setting. I should also point out that, on most models, the tough colored polycarb cover that protects the gears from dirt and debris can be changed as well. Sullivan Products offers a set of replacement covers in various colors should you want to tailor the cover to match the rest of your car or truck. If you're looking for an alternative to a pull start, and a starter box is not an option the Sullivan Products TigerDrive may be just the answer you're looking for. Chances are you already have a drill handy, which means you won't have to charge a separate 6-cell pack for a handheld starter. However, if you desire, it can also be used in conjunction with some rotary starters as well. The fact it also you the convenience of electric starting, without having to carry around a starter box, will appeal to many backyard bashers. The best thing is that with a price comparable to a pullstart, the TigerDrive is a no-brainer if it's a replacement for a worn out pullstart.
